Kelowna Rockets

Apart from its exceptional scenic beauty, the city of Kelowna British Columbia

Kelowna is also famous for sports. Locals enjoy watching and participating in a number of sporting activities, but their favorite pastime is definitely hockey. This is why they worship their major junior ice hockey team, the Kelowna Rockets.

Kelowna has been a farm of talent for decades, providing a steady stream of good young players to NHL teams. This was mostly due to the fact that in its early years, it was a rather small city and lacked entertainment options. As such, people spent most of their free time playing hockey instead of going out partying.

Conservatively speaking, about one-third of all Canadians who currently play or ever played in an NHL squad come from this sunny Canadian town. Another remarkable statistic is that about half of all guys drafted by the Montreal Canadiens were raised in Kelowna!

The Kelowna Rockets are the most successful team in the history of the Western Hockey League that is recognized as one of three major leagues for junior hockey. On top of that, it’s also considered to be the second most dominant team in the history of any Canadian junior league, after only the old powerhouse Winnipeg Jets.

That exceptional record is mostly due to their head coach Dan Lambert who also happens to be a former Rockets’ captain and remains their all-time best player.

The Rockets made it to the WHL finals no less than ten times in only twenty years. They had a staggering regular-season record of 575-299-46, which is equivalent to an impressive 62% winning rate.

One of the very best examples of this team’s exceptional strength can be traced back to 1990 when their starting players were all under 18 years old! Even though the team has been temporarily sidetracked due to some financial problems that affected their roster choices, they are still known for giving young prospects a great opportunity to grow into future stars.

The Rockets have won four titles in the WHL and made it to the finals three times; they captured one Memorial Cup. The team is known for being successful with hosting duties as well; 2004 was their first championship win at this event, while 2005 through 2008 all ended in defeat on home ice but not without making history along, of course!

The current roster continues the legacy of its predecessor and has a number of talented young players. Some of the most notable names include Tyson Baillie, Dillon Dube, Carsen Twarynski, and Cal Foote.
